How to run restaurant billing
Open a table, send dishes to the kitchen on a KOT, add more as the guests order, and settle the bill when they leave.
Step by step
- Set up once. Restaurant details and bill settings: name, address, GSTIN, UPI ID and your GST rate (5% for most restaurants).
- Open a table. Dine-in with the table number, or Takeaway / Delivery; add dishes.
- Send the KOT. Print KOT (new items): only dishes not yet sent go to the kitchen, with notes like "less spicy".
- Keep tables running. Save table, take next order; running tables show as buttons at the top.
- Settle. Discount, service charge only if the guest agrees, split if asked; pick cash, UPI, card or credit; Settle and print bill.
Worked example
Table 4: 2 dal makhani ₹260, 6 roti ₹20, 2 lassi ₹80 = ₹800 + GST 5% (CGST ₹20 + SGST ₹20) = ₹840. Split between two guests: ₹420 each.
Rules and dates
Restaurant service is 5% GST without input tax credit, except in hotels with room tariff above ₹7,500 a day (18%). Service charge cannot be added automatically; it is only with the guest's consent (CCPA guidelines).
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Printing the full order again on each KOT. Use Print KOT (new items) so the kitchen gets only the new dishes.
